We owe most of our secondhand culture to Bootik 54. Twenty years ago, Laurent Candelon brought the Parisian vintage flair to Vienna.
Paris is definitely the metropolis of all things vintage. A couple of years ago, malicious tongues would have argued that you can’t get this cool vintage vibe in Vienna. But a lot has changed over the last years. Nowadays, the Viennese secondhand scene is well established. There are not a lot of cities that offer as many great secondhand stores as our lovely Vienna. The main impact was probably made by Laurent Candelon. The Frenchman brought us a piece of Paris, when he opened his vintage store on Neubaugasse twenty years ago. His "Bootik" was not on Neubaugasse 54 those days, it was right across the street.
Same same but different..
..you know the story about the left and the right Twix? For a long time, I had the same confusion about the two stores of Bootik 54, but now I can tell you the difference. Because the old shop has gotten too small for all the great stuff Laurent is always bringing home from all around the world, a new store was a must – or two, side by side on the other side of the road. You definitely have to check out both of them. The right store offers the greatest selection of Vintage Levi’s Jeans in Vienna. Plus: if you are looking for trainers, trackies, college jackets, sweaters or casual shirts you’ll be in treat there. When looking for fancy attire such as dresses, skirts, blazers and coats you should check out the left store first. It also offers great Vintage Levi’s skirts and leather jackets by the way.
Guys, Girls, Barbapapa, Burberry
Guys and girls, even babies (Update 13.02.2018: sadly there's no more Barbapapa merch - but still great T-shirts for babies), are definitely going to find the right pieces for themselves. The great variety of sizes (from XXS to XXL) is a huge plus point. Even Levi’s jeans come in all sizes. Prices start at 5€ for a bow-tie and range up to 220€ for a Burberry trench coat. What is bringing us to the next insider tip: There’s no other place in Vienna that offers a selection of Burberry coats, that only cost 220€ (some of them cost even less!). Levi’s jeans start at 29€, reworked (tighter fit) they’ll cost you around 55€.
Five or six times a year there’s a big sale in the courtyard of the warehouse on Neubaugasse 64 – the kiloshop. You can purchase 1 kilogram of clothing and accessories for as little as 10€ all weekend (friday and saturday). I bet you've never gotten a better deal on a Vintage Levi’s before! Follow Bootik 54 on Facebook and Instagram to make sure you never miss a kiloshop or sale again!
